What is Life/work design?
Life/Work design uses design thinking to help people find fun, fulfillment and creativity as they face constant change in their personal and professional development. The site is organized around four sets of intertwingled tools that can help individuals build a coherent life that includes personally meaningful work. Building that kind of life requires a commitment to constant learning in ways that are both self-directed and intentional.
All the signals suggest that we’re entering a new age of learning that challenges all our assumptions about where and how people learn. For a big chunk of the population, individual careers will span 60 or more years and works will need to find their ways through multiple transitions. Transitions provide the motivation and the opportunity to rethink our approaches to life and work and to try out new possibilities to shape our futures.
What is Life/work design coaching?
I’ve been fascinated by the approach that Dave Evans and Bill Burnett have taken during the last 15 years. They’ve taught thousands of students at Stanford, organized the Stanford Life Design Lab and written two books to share what they had learned with a wider audience. You can read more about the Life Design Lab and Bill and Dave’s books here.
In November, I completed their *Designing Your Life* Coach Certification Program designed for life and career coaches, career counselors, human resource professionals and mental health professionals who are interested in adding the DYL ideas, tools, and exercises to their practice.
I’m currently conducting a prototype project with a few clients find specific ways to adapt the DYL methodology to the particular requirements of adult learners who are interested in preretirement and re-retirement planning. Send me an email if you’d like more information.
