Digital Ethnography » Blog Archive » A Vision of Students Today:
This video was made by a group of Kansas State students as part of a class production known as the Digital Ethnography project. (See this YouTube video for more information about what they are doing and how they are doing it.)
The project wasn’t on my radar until the a recent post from Andy Rush at the University of Mary Washington. We’ve learned a lot from anthropologists who produce works like Coming of Age in New Jersey and My Freshman Year, but this has a kind of power that goes even beyond those texts.

The blog post has a great description of how the video was produced.
This video was created by myself and the 200 students enrolled in ANTH 200: Introduction to Cultural Anthropology at Kansas State University, Spring 2007. Now that they are in my aggregator, I’m looking forward to following the work of the class and their professor.
I feel such a thick, intense, tangled mix of emotions watching that video.
That’s the same class that put together that terrific Web 2.0 video that was making the rounds earlier this year.
I’m delighted that ELI has invited Mike Wesch to do a session at the upcoming annual meeting. Like everyone else, I’m sure, I’m dying to meet him and hear him speak. These stunning videos work on multiple levels and across multiple audiences. He’s enriching the conversation tremendously.
And of course I saw Andy’s post here, first. Such is the way of our interconnectedness. But there’s another layer there as well. I hopped over here because I hadn’t seen a new Techfoot post in my aggregator for some time. It is true: we subscribe to people, not to blogs….
Welcome back, Techfoot.
Hi Gardner,
Nice to be back. The line “I feel such a thick, intense, tangled mix of emotions” sort of sums up my life right now, and it’s nice to know that I have some loyal members of my network even when I haven’t done much to deserved them!
This video is really Good, I can tell that they put lots of effer into it.
